Overview

Masashi Umetani ("we" / "us") operates the mobile application Margent. This Privacy Policy describes how we handle user data, designed to comply with applicable laws including Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information, EU GDPR, and California CCPA.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 User-provided information

• Search queries (sent to iTunes Search API)
• Subscribed podcast IDs / RSS URLs (for fetching episode lists)
• Language preference (for translation target)
• Playback settings (speed, chunk gap, etc.)

1.2 Automatically collected information

• OS version / device model (crash analysis, compatibility)
• API request logs (service operations, debugging)
• Locale tag (e.g. en_US) for UI language

1.3 What we don't collect

• Personally identifiable information (name, email, phone) — no account required
• Contacts, photos, location, microphone, camera
• Advertising identifiers (IDFA / Ad ID)
• Third-party analytics SDKs that track users

2. How We Use Information

• Provide podcast retrieval, transcription, translation, and TTS for user-selected content
• Monitor service health, investigate crashes and incidents
• Comply with legal obligations (takedown requests, law-enforcement inquiries)
• Improve the service within the scope of this Policy

3. Third-party sharing

3.1 Service providers

Transcription, translation, and speech synthesis are performed on our backend, which may send minimum necessary text data to the following third-party AI services via API:

• OpenAI (US) — JA translation of English chunks (text only)
• Anthropic (US) — Translation fallback (text only)
• Google Cloud TTS (US) — Japanese speech synthesis (text only)

No personally identifiable information is sent to these services.

• On-device playback history and downloads: until the user deletes
• Server-side job logs: 30 days from completion
• Downloaded episode cache (server-side): 90 days from last access
• Crash reports: 90 days

Use "Settings → Delete Data" in the app to remove on-device data. Contact us for server-side data removal.

5. Your rights

Where applicable law permits, you have the rights to:

• Access information we hold about you
• Request correction, addition, or deletion
• Restrict or stop processing
• Opt out of third-party sharing
• Data portability (GDPR/CCPA)
• Withdraw consent

To exercise these rights, contact us via the support email below. We will respond within a reasonable time after verifying your identity.

6. DMCA / takedown

Margent processes only publicly available RSS feeds that users actively choose to subscribe to. We do not redistribute content. If you are a rights holder and want your content excluded from processing, contact us with:

• Your name and contact
• Identification of the content (RSS URL, show name, etc.)
• Evidence of your rights
• A good-faith statement

We will remove the feed from processing within 7 business days of verification.

7. Children's information

Margent is intended for users 12 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (US) / under 16 (EU). If we become aware of such collection, we will promptly delete the data.

8. Changes

This Policy may change in response to legal updates or service changes. We will notify of material changes via in-app notice or this support page. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

9. Governing law

This Policy is governed by the laws of Japan. The Tokyo District Court shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any disputes.
